SLO 2 - Current Research and Thought

During my time in the UNCG Program, I have learned a lot about the current research trends and thought in the LIS field. I use the ALA, NCLA, and SNCA list-serve emails to stay current, using the emails to know what his a trending topic in ALA and what NCLA is doing to raise funds or awareness.

For LIS 688 Introduction to Reference Resources, I analyzed the reference resources available about Ukraine. As I was overseas, I was unable to look at the physical resources at Jackson Library.

In my LIS 644 Digital Libraries class, I created a metadata schema for a set of family photographs. Two blog posts about the project can also be found this blog on the  LIS 644: Digital Collection Project - Progress Report page and the  LIS 644: Digital Collection Project - Final Report page. One of the things we talked about in LIS 644 was the current research into and thoughts on copyright, fair use, and digitization. I think that the best thing to have a liberal take-down policy after having done due-diligence.

There is also a move towards open-course content management systems, and away from content management systems such as the gold standard of Content DM. One of the systems being looked at is Omeka, which has a server-based version and a web-based version. For my independent study, I am using Omeka to recreate my Content DM collection, which can be found here. It's a work in progress. You can also find my Independent Study Blog here, which has family stories on it.
